I've been competing and practising obedience with the keeshond since 1994. The kees is a quick learner, but needs a lot of motivation to keep up the interest. I've found that to do something fun in connection to the practise, e.g. look for candies or some agility, is important to keep them interested. And praise and rewards are important.
